Built to know as little about you as possible.
Clasp is a messenger for the people you've actually met. There's no account to make: no phone number, email or username. Everything you send is encrypted on your phone, and our server deletes it as soon as it's delivered.
A messenger for the people you know, and nobody else.
Most messengers start by asking for your phone number. Clasp starts with a key made on your phone and a face-to-face scan.
Only people you've met
You add contacts face to face by scanning each other's animated portal code. Nobody can find you, cold-message you or add you from a leaked number.
Nothing to sign up with
No phone number, email, username or password. Your identity is a key created on your phone, so there's nothing to leak or look you up by.
Private by design, not by promise
Messages, calls, photos, voice notes, files, profile photos and location are end-to-end encrypted. The server only passes sealed messages along.
Your data lives on your phone
Chats, notes and files are stored encrypted on your device, with no cloud copy. No adverts, no analytics, no contact uploads.
Warmer than texting
Touches let you send a hug, a high five or a nudge you can actually feel, with haptics, sound and a glow that follows your finger.
More than a messenger
Plans, shared albums, time capsules, checklists, a private vault, AI meeting notes and public articles, all in one calm app.
You add someone by being in the same room.
Open Clasp, hold up your portal code and let your friend scan it, then scan theirs. Your phones swap keys directly. There's no directory to search and no number to type in, so the only people who can reach you are people you've met.
Every portal code is unique to one phone and changes as it animates, so a photo of it can't be reused later.
Everything we could know about you, and what we keep.
A privacy policy should fit on one screen. This table is the short version of ours. The full text is in our privacy policy.
| Data | On Clasp's server | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Your identity | No account | No phone number, email, username or password. Your identity is a key made on your phone. |
| Messages and calls | Never readable | Sealed on your phone. The server holds a sealed message only until it's collected, then deletes it. Uncollected messages are deleted after 30 days. |
| Photos, voice notes, files | Never readable | End-to-end encrypted, as are profile photos and shared locations. |
| Who you talk to | Not logged | There are no logs of who talks to whom. |
| Contacts | Not uploaded | Contacts are added face to face with portal codes. Your address book never leaves your phone. |
| Chats, notes, vault | No cloud copy | Stored encrypted on your device only. |
| Recordings and notes | Kept on your iPhone | Made on the device with Apple Intelligence. Optional enhanced notes send the transcript (not the recording) to Anthropic's Claude API, and it isn't kept. |
| Time capsules | Key only, until the date | Your friend holds the locked message. The server holds only the key and releases it on the date. |
| Articles | Public by choice | The only public part of Clasp, published under a pen name that isn't linked to your identity. |
| Adverts and analytics | None | No adverts, no tracking and no analytics. |
Locked until the date. Even for us.
Write a message for a birthday, a graduation or next New Year. Your friend's phone holds the locked message and our server holds only the key. Neither half can open it alone, so it can't be read early, not even by Clasp.
Meeting notes made on your iPhone.
Recordings, transcripts and notes are made and kept on your phone, using Apple's on-device speech recognition and Apple Intelligence. Enhanced notes are optional and run only when you tap them: the transcript, never the recording, goes through our server to Anthropic's Claude to write the notes. We don't keep it, and Anthropic doesn't train on it.
We make all kinds of apps. Privacy is the part we never trade.
Atheriods is a UK app studio. Clasp is the first app out the door, built with privacy from the first line of code, and every app after it follows the same rules.
Clasp
Our messenger for the people you've met. Encrypted chat, calls, plans and time capsules.
Productivity
Tools for notes, plans and shared lists that keep your work on your devices.
Everyday utilities
Small, fast apps that do one job well and don't ask for permissions they don't need.
Client work
Have an app idea? We take on a small number of outside projects each year.
Know as little as possible
Data we never collect can't leak, be sold or be handed over. Every feature starts by asking what we can leave out.
Encrypt everything
Protection isn't a setting you have to find. If something can be end-to-end encrypted, it is.
Keep it on the device
Your data lives on your phone, and features like transcription run there too.
No adverts, no tracking
No advertising, no analytics and no profiles of the people who use our apps.
Be one of the first to try Clasp.
We're letting people in gradually. Leave your email and we'll send one message when your invite is ready. We use it for nothing else, and Clasp itself never asks for it.
